Baby pics for momma

She now does raspberries with her bottom lip out and the top sucked in. I love it.

I got some new film/lens for the hipstamatic app and had to try them out. Tamara was right, it is so awesome. I need to get me an iphone stat so I can take more pictures when I am out and about than just using Tony's phone.

I love waking up when shes playing in the crib so nicely beside me. Its a nice little alarm clock to hear her talking to her toys.

She was investigating her new blanket from Mikaela yesterday on the big girl bed. She and I love to hang out there. I read, she plays. Its nice and quiet usually. Sometimes we go there if she doesn't want a nap. She will nap there when all else fails.

lazy dinner

Even though I threw out my cheese wiz today, (trying to get away from overly processed foods) I still used made sidekicks cheese broccoli rice and green beans (I am a cheater). At least the green beans are good for me. Tomorrow is a day for making chili full of beans and things. I am really on a beans kick lately. Tony may not appreciate them, especially cause he has to cuddle up to me and deal with the aftermath, but whatevs. Beans are good.

what we've been up to

This thanksgiving weekend we went to Pentiction for Tony's Great Aunt's 80th Birthday Party. Packed up the baby and we went in a van for a couple days up there. I've never been down town Pentiction really. It looks super nice. I saw the Pentiction Vineyard. I wish we had more time to explore, but it was a quick trip.

On the way down, Sadie was unhappy. Super unhappy. Maybe it was her ears, or maybe she was hungry. I think it was mostly that she was trapped in her seat for way too long. Shes not accustomed to being in there. She thrashed around and screamed. Then there was traffic. We stopped in Chilliwack to feed her and let her roll around on my parents living room floor. She wouldn't eat until she had played a bit. She has her priorities. My smiley girl was back for a bit.

Thank you Mikaela and everyone else for the pretty new clothes. She looks so cute in her fall sweater and jeans. The jeans fit her too!

Recently, she has tried rice cereal mixed with formula. Shes not quite ready yet, but I'm getting her used to it by giving her a tiny bit every couple days. She got real excited about the spoon. She wanted to hold it, and gnaw on it, but not eat from it as much.

It was a lot of fun feeding her. Watching her facial expressions. She did eat some of it.

This last one she had just gagged on a tiny lump and this was right afterward. She gave me the stink eye.

Stuff I love [Fall edition]

Crunchy leaves under my feet.

Fresh pumpkin pie that Aria bakes.

Being wrapped up in blankets all day long.

Hot chocolate with tons and tons of marshmallows.

I think fall is my new favorite season. I cant wait to make more marshmallows this year. Today I am spending the day at a birthday party. Hopefully I will have pictures to show when I am back.

DRAGON!

self tucked

I always put her to bed with her arms outside the blankets. She usually likes to be free. When she called us to come get her from her nap, we found her all tucked in.

Giant Lemon Cupcakes

I whipped out my "Tony" sized cupcake tins today to make lemon cupcakes. I've never used it before. They turned out to be the size of mini cakes.

I had fun decorating while little girl watched in her high chair.  I prefer the ones with coconut, Tony likes plain ones.

These are the regular tins on the left, and the GINORMOUS ones on the right.

This is how I eat them. Its the best icing to cake ratio. Otherwise you end up eating a big bite of icing and its no fun.

something vintage for the little girl

This will be perfect for spring / her birthday. I love it and I love how she looks so good in yellow. Got it from etsy.

I should start hunting for stuff like this at the thrift stores.

Distressed Picture Canvas

I had lots of fun doing these up. They were easy and you can tell its my first shot at it. The one on the right I am going to re do. I should have made it more contrasty. I shouldn't have left that much paper on it.

I followed this tutorial on how to do it: http://deliacreates.blogspot.com/2010/03/distressed-picture-canvases.html

The only thing that was hard was finding the gel. The Michael's near my place didn't carry it. Poo heads. So I found it elsewhere. I was so excited to buy the laser jet printer, not for the economical part, but that it would allow me to get this project done. Its been on my to do list for forever!

So watch out, there will be more of these being done.

Homemade Christmas Ornament #2 [Button Wreath]

I think I am in love with Buttons (sorry Coley).  I am very sure I will be doing other things with buttons soon.

Supplies:

Cardboard
White buttons
Diamond Glaze Glue (or a hot glue gun would work)
Red Ribbon

All I did for this one was cut out a piece of cardboard in a doughnut shape. Then I used Diamond glaze glue (you could also use a hot glue gun) and glued a layer of buttons down. I did about 2 full layers and then did scattered ones on the third layer. Once it dried, I took red ribbon and made a bow, glued it to the wreath and DONE! Ready for the tree this year.

I am thinking that we are going to get a smallish tree instead of using my itty bitty one again. It is Sadie's first Christmas and it would be kinda sad in my mind.

Just playing around

Grandma R bought Sadie some toys this weekend. Teething keys (which she is getting used to) as well as a cute elephant that laughs and vibrates. She claimed that as her own right away by slobbering all over his face and trunk. Nobody really wanted to handle it after she was through with him. He was soaked. The elephant was named Cedric by Kathryn. I like it.

This morning she got to her tummy mostly by herself. I had her on her side and she went and flipped to her tummy like it was nothing. It has taken forever for her to do it on her own. This girl just couldn't get her arms out of the way.

Her hair has red highlights, its not as red as it is in the picture. I kinda wish it was though. Ginger babies are awesome!

She's been having a rough couple days. Her poor teeth hurt so bad she would cry and gnaw on her fingers. She was so sore. I gave her some baby tylenol last night and it helped. Poor little gums. I sure wish these teeth would pop out, but knowing my luck, they will probably do this for a while longer yet. Sad times for her mouth.

Need to get some ribbon for one of my Christmas decorations and then I will post it. To the Dollar Store!

4 Stories: Food

One: Borscht

My Grandma would make this for us when we came over for lunch. It also came with homemade buns, REAL butter and maybe cheese. I didn't care for this soup as much, it had "things" in it. Cabbage, big stewed tomatoes and was not at all like vegetable soup from a can. When I moved away from home, I started craving foods that I would eat at home. I appreciated those foods, especially homemade soups. They are one of my ultimate comforty foods. This weekend we had company over and I made it for them. Kinda wanted to share the foods that I grew up with that are a little different than the norm. I filled my 2 biggest pots full of soup and in the end, we finished the biggest one. That's good though, cause that means awesome leftovers for me this week.

Two: Favorite

Its hard to pinpoint a favorite food, but if I had to it would be mashed potatoes and gravy. I know they are kind of 2 foods, but they are the best. When I was younger, I would eat leftover mashed potatoes and gravy for almost every meal if I could. Usually I would run out of gravy before the mashed potatoes though. That was sad times.

Three: Breakfast

I have never ever EVER been a typical breakfast girl. When I was young, I hated toast. I seemed to remember that we had it a lot and eventually I got to make my own breakfast. Unlike Tony who eats cereal or typical breakfast foods, I went straight for the leftovers. Cold pizza was the best breakfast. I don't even heat it up. In high school I would eat ice cream, or cold meatloaf. Never cereal. The only breakfast food I will eat for breakfast now is probably oatmeal. If I cook Tony breakfast like eggs, I will have some, but otherwise, its whatever is handy in my fridge.

Four: Birthdays

So the tradition is, on your birthday you can ask mom for what you want her to cook you for dinner. For me, this is a pretty awesome deal. Unlike my summer siblings who have to choose foods that are not prepared in an oven, I get free range kinda on what I can have. This is why I love March birthdays. One time my momma asked if I wanted turkey dinner for a birthday dinner. WHAT???? Make my favourite meal not on a holiday???? OH HECK YES! Chicken cordon bleu? SURE! So you summer babies may have awesome weather on your birthdays, but I get the awesome food.

What's in my Purse?

Here it is again, only this time its my purse. What goodies did I find? Well, from left to right :

Its my billabong purse...I think its time to find a non summery one.
Sunglasses, cause I'm cool like that.
Starbucks napkin, just in case.
Hello Kitty change purse, with the bus money inside.
iPod
Grapefruit Body Butter from the Body Shop.
Mint from sushi place.
Loose change that was thrown in there willy nilly.
Hair elastics.
Bulging roxy wallet...time to get a new one, its just embarrassing how dirty it is.
Map for transit to where I needed to go that day.
Keys, complete with nail clipper key chain thing and sharpie *sharpie is so handy on my key chain*.
Many other sharpies and pens.
Lip balm.
eBay brand antibacterial stuff from when the H1N1 flu came out at work. Super handy and smells like lemon.

In other news, I had an ultrasound for my gallbladder and liver. They ultrasounded all my innards. I saw my spleen! Waiting to see how it goes. This was for my terrible heartburn that could be gallbladder attacks.

Antler!

I've been meaning to get the ouchless elastics for this girl for a long time now. I found some at the dollar store yesterday when I was there with Coley.

I am going to do 2 soon, but I only got the one in before she was all wiggly.

Cake!

Made this cake yesterday for a birthday girl I know. Layers were pink, teal, (supposed to be black) Steely grey, and purple. It was a vanilla cake with vanilla butter cream icing.

I think I love making cakes like these only because when the person cuts into it, they have no idea that its innards are beautiful colours.  We had a very good time, making crafts, playing with Sadie, talking.

Larissa reminded me today that Michaels downtown is open. Larissa, we need to head down there! I have crafts that we need to do as well.

So this is one of the ornaments I made with scrap paper today. I took my scraps, glued them to a piece of card, then cut out my tree shape. I'm gonna do a star, and maybe a bell in this fashion.

I have a different ornament that is almost done, just needs a bow of ribbon and then I will post it here as well.

mmm toes

Guess what she found?

They are mighty tasty apparently.

She's half rolling around again. She's gotta figure out her arms.

Halloween

So let me give you the scoop. I have only been trick or treating like twice in my life. I was 5-6 years old and dressed up as an angel or princess or something. I don't remember a lot about it. I remember mom sorting my candy, making sure there weren't any razor blades or crazy things in it.

After that, we didn't go out for Halloween, and instead were given a bag of candy from my momma so we wouldn't feel left out when everyone else at school went out.

Tony always went trick or treating. He went with this siblings when he was just small. They had a costume that was used by each of them. It was the pumpkin costume seen here that Beth (on the right) is wearing. Their momma made probably all their costumes and they were super cute. They had great memories of dressing up and such.

(there's the pumpkin again on Kathryn)

I always assumed that we wouldn't do the whole trick or treating thing. Tony didn't mind, but then at Old Navy there were costumes! I've never seen such cute costumes before! They weren't scary at all. He wanted a costume like the little pumpkin that we could dress up all our kids in. It wasn't hard to persuade me to want to take her out. They didn't have her size, but my mom and aria found one when they were out shopping.

If you are on my facebook, you may have seen what she will be this year. I am going to put up a picture later on in a few weeks so you can see her in her awesomeness, but for now, just a teaser. You will have to wait until then to see what she will be. Tony and Mikaela will be taking her out this year, but mostly I think we will be handing out candy to the kiddos.

She is super cute, that is all I have to say.

good morning little girl!

4 Stories: Vintage

One: Suzy Homemaker

This was the first thing I thought of when I thought of the word "Vintage". My mom had this little oven that was like the first "easy bake oven". It was this exact colour and had the little girl's head on it. We used it mostly to play house with, but occasionally we baked a tiny cake or something under the light bulb. Who knew you could cook food using a light bulb. It was so cute and fun. Thing was also pretty heavy...but I was 6 so maybe it was just me. My momma I think still has this thing, and I hope that Sadie can play with it when she's older.

Two: Skipper

I will never forget when my momma brought out 2 floral patterned suitcases (that must have came from the 60's) and inside were the coolest barbies. These barbies had real eyelashes, and black hair, and neat faces. I don't remember what happened to them. They would have been collectible too. The one we did keep was Skipper. She had flat flipper like feet and coarse feeling hair. She didn't really fit any of my barbies clothes. She obviously didn't hit puberty yet, but that was ok. She was the older sister and she really hurt if your sister hit you with her. Her head popped off one day and when we played with her, we would shove her head back on her neck, so she wouldn't have a neck. She was the "disfigured" older sister to our barbies. Poor gal.

Three: Wishfulness

I gotta admit, I struggled with this topic a lot. I am not the type of person who goes thrifting and finds awesome vintage stuff. I read blogs like FreckledNest and I am envious at all the cute little things she finds. I keep telling myself that one day I will make a list of things and then go out searching. Maybe when Sadie will let me leave the house without her.

Four: Toys

So way way before Sadie was born, when she wasn't even thought of, I was on the hunt for vintage toys, or toys that I played with. I worked at eBay, the worlds garage biggest garage sale basically. When it was slow, I would be browsing the site, looking for toys I played with. I found 2 things that I had, a Tupperware Noah's ark set and a Tupperware tea set with cake holder. Tony thought I was nuts, but I told him for our future children, they would need these things. NEED THEM! So they went into a storage bin under our bed. When we found out we were expecting her, I whipped out her toys and set them up in her side of the room. She can't play with them now, but maybe soon the Noah's ark in the tub. When I was pregnant, I also found an awesome set of bible story books that I used to read. I am missing the 4th book, but I shall be hunting for it again at Value Village.

what's in my bag?

Sooo maybe you wonder what other people put in their purses or bags, or maybe not. Sometimes I am curious about if people have half eaten candies or a loose rolaid in their purses like I do. I find some strange things in my bags. This is my diaper bag for Sadie (its a big o'neil bag that I got on ebay), and this is what was in it today if you are curious:

1. pink bunny receiving blanket for mopping up all the drool that this one has
2. soother
3. munchkin changing pad thing that is  super handy.
4. cover girl compact in probably the palest shade ever
5. MAC hello kitty lip gloss
6. pink face cloth
7. yellow socks
8. stride gum in mystery flavor -- Tony swears its grapefruit
9. journal -- keeps me busy at baby's doctor appointments
10. moxy the ugly doll -- baby loves to knaw on his ears
11. ipod for the tunes
12. new coffee cozy -- used it today at blendz to get a dark chocolate mocha -- too rich a drink for me though
13. nuby -- nubly ring of texture for baby to play with
14. hello kitty change purse
15. crappy cell phone --it has lasted a long time though--cant wait to get a new one

This bag is waaaay cleaner than my purse. I might show you what I keep in that one next.
